And a throwback to December 2019

On the 30th of December 2019, I was in France, at my parents’ house. My plan for the day was to meet a friend in Nantes.

The following day, I would spend New Years’ Eve with some of my oldest friends. We would tell our friend about to get married that her hen party would be in Ploërmel (code name for Milan but don’t tell the bride) during the Easter weekend in April 2020.

Going back home when you live abroad always feel a bit like being like a rockstar on a tour.

You’re going to a different place every day so you can catch up with as many people as you can. People want to see you, they want you to stay for lunch, they want to tell you about their life and hear about yours.

Everything looks the same but everything is different. People are just getting older. More wrinkles, more grey hair.

Back in December 2019, I had no idea that 2020 would be a life-changing year.

I didn’t know I would not go back to France in 2020. I didn’t know my friend’s wedding would be delayed. I didn’t know I would move to London in October and change job, career, and life.

I’ve learned a lot about myself this year. I also felt very lucky: I didn’t get sick, I didn’t lose anyone to Covid-19. I wrote A…
