Why I Love Travelling solo

For when we’ll be able to be on the road again

I know… Writing an article about travelling when we’re in the middle of a pandemic may not be the most appropriate. Borders are closed, quarantine is a thing, and overall, it’s better to stay at home even if we’re all tired of this (my tip, in this case, is to remember people in 1916 who had no idea when the war would end).

I was thinking about travelling solo when I was on the train on my way to Cork, at the beginning of September. I also think about it now as I’m preparing to move from one country to another, all by myself.

It’s actually quite pandemic friendly when you think of it: when you’re alone you can avoid crowded areas and you can social distance easily.

Here is what I learn from travelling on my own. I hope it inspires you to do the same.

1. It teaches you to be on my own

We are afraid of being alone. We rather stay in unhealthy relationships than to be alone. We rather say yes to parties we don’t want to go rather than to be alone. We don’t want to take a good look at ourselves in the mirror. We’re afraid of finding a skeleton in a closet of our mind (there must be a skeleton). We’re also afraid of how people will judge us if we spend ‘too much’ time alone.
